Posted on Monday, April 8, 2013 12:19am

A new fund in Ventura County is planning to soon make its first round of grants to local groups helping veterans.

The Ventura County Community Foundation’s Veterans Fund will have $75,000 available for projects which support basic needs services, employment training, and mental health services. Foundation officials say in awarding the grants, they will give preference to local organizations helping combat veterans returning to civilian life.

The Foundation, and the Gold Coast Veterans Foundation put up the first $25,000 for the fund, and the Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors Foundation made a $20,000 contribution.
