Former Goverment Official In Santa Barbara County Pleads Guilty To Misappropriation Of Public Funds

Posted on Monday, April 8, 2013 12:01am

The former head of a mosquito control agency on the South Coast is facing 60 days in jail, three years probation, and $10,000 in restitution after entering a guilty plea to a charge of misappropriation of public funds.

Brian Passaro was General Manager of the Mosquito and Vector Management District of Santa Barbara County from October of 2008, to October of 2011.

Santa Barbara County prosecutors say the 54 year old man used a district credit card for some personal purchases, and also failed to record 56 hours of vacation he was paid for when he resigned.

The prosecutors say if Passaro pays a substantial part of the restitution before his sentencing in September, they will drop the request for jail time, but note that he will still have to perform 160 hours of community service.
