Ventura County Woman Who Stabbed Mother To Death Ruled Insane At Time Of Crime

Posted on Thursday, March 14, 2013 12:23pm

A judge ruled a Ventura County woman who brutally stabbed her mother to death was legally insane when she committed the crime.

Lauren Donahue had entered a guilty plea to a first degree murder charge for the February, 2008 slaying of Rose Weiss in her Simi Valley home. Investigators say the Simi Valley woman stabbed her 69 year old mother some 40 times.

A judge changed the guilty plea to not guilty by reason insanity after reviewing reports of the now 46 year old woman’s problems, including being sexually abused, the suicide of her husband, and spending time in multiple mental health facilities.

Donahue could spend the rest of her life in a state mental health facility.
