If you make great homemade cookies, jams, or other treats, it’s going to become a lot easier to sell them in Santa Barbara County.
A new state law makes it easier for people to create, and sell certain food products in home kitchens and sell them.
Today, Santa Barbara County Supervisors approved a registration plan which means you can register your home food business for free with County Health officials, if you’re selling products on a small scale yourself.
Santa Barbara County Environmental Health Director Larry Faye says if your homemade products are sold through a third party, you’ll have to pay for a permit, and undergo a home inspection.
You also still need to get other permits like a business license. The new law only allows the home creation of low risk items for bacteria, and not things which contain ingredients like meat.
