Officials Warn Of Scam By People Misrepresenting Boys And Girls Club In Ventura County

Posted on Saturday, March 9, 2013 7:08pm

Ventura County Sheriff’s investigators are warning people about a scam going on involving people claiming to represent a local Boys and Girls Club.

A woman going door to door in the Camarillo area said she was selling a discount coupon book good at local businesses, with book profits going to the Camarillo Boys and Girls Club.

People buying the books were told they would get the books from the local club.

One of the victims reported paying $80.00 for one of the books, but then discovered that the whole thing was a scam, and that the club wasn’t involved with coupon books.

The Sheriff’s Department is warning people to ask for identification from anyone asking for money on behalf of a non-profit.
