Los Angeles County Woman Gets 11 Year Sentence For Mortgage Fraud In Ventura County

Posted on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 10:50am

A Los Angeles County woman received an 11 year prison sentence after being convicted of mortgage fraud in Ventura County.

Prosecutors say Laura Cecilia Carlson of Hacienda Heights ran a mortgage business known as Global Team Consulting. They say she offered to lower payments for clients, targeting Spanish speaking people who were less familiar with the workings of mortgages. Investigators say she told homeowners to make payments to her, instead of their lenders, and the end result for some of the victims is they lost their homes after she pocketed the money.

Carlson was convicted of 14 felony fraud counts, ranging from mortgage fraud to grand theft.

In addition to the 11 year sentence, the 66 year old woman was also ordered to pay more than $60,000 in restitution.
