Memorial Service Held For Former Ventura County Couple Believed To Be First Victims Of Rampage By Fired LAPD Officer

Posted on Monday, February 25, 2013 12:04am

It was an emotional day in Orange County, as thousands of people turned out for a memorial service to honor a former Ventura County couple believed to be the first murder victims of former LAPD officer Christopher Dorner.

Concordia University hosted Sunday’s event to remember Monica Kwan and Keith Lawrence, who both attended the college in Irvine. Kwan is a former Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at California Lutheran University, in Thousand Oaks. Lawrence was a basketball star at Moorpark College.

Investigators think Dorner killed the couple at the Irvine apartment complex as revenge for Kwan’s father’s role in his firing from the LAPD. They say he went on to kill two police officers, and wound three others before killing himself during a standoff in Big Bear.

The crowd was so large that closed circuit feeds had to be set up so people could be accommodated in different buildings on the campus.

The couple had met while attending Concordia, and had recently become engaged.
