A State Senator who represents part of Ventura County introduced a bill to try to make it easier for college students to vote, by making polling places more easily accessible.
Democratic State Senator Fran Pavley of Agoura Hills wants to designate state college campuses as their own precincts. Current law gives local elections officials discretion in establishing precincts, and where they locate polling places. Pavley says some state campuses have polling places, but others do not.
Senate Bill 267 would designate UC, Cal State, and California Community College campuses with more than 1,000 students living on campus as precincts.
Pavley says making it easier for students to vote at accessible polling places, or to drop off vote by mail ballots would increase participation in elections.
