Satellite Successfully Launched Into Orbit From Vandenberg Air Force Base

A satellite which will increase the ability of researchers to monitor vital aspects of the Earth’s surface, like the status of natural resources like forests was successfully launched from Santa Barbara County this morning.

An Atlas Five rocket lifted the Landsat Data Continuity Mission satellite into orbit from Vandenberg Air Force Base just after 10 a.m.

It’s the eighth satellite in the four decade old Landsat series.

After it become full operational, it will pass over each part of the earth every 16 days, providing important data on environmental cocnerns like climate, and land use change.
