A man survived a terrifying crash over an embankment, and a night trapped in the wreckage of his car in Santa Barbara County, but he may be in big trouble with the law.
Michael Crolius of Solvang was headed westbound on Highway 154 just after 4 Monday afternoon when he went flying over an embankment, and crashed.
He used a cell phone to call family members for help.
They contacted the CHP, but a search involving CHP units, and a helicopter was unable to find him.
The vehicle he was trapped in was discovered around 8:30 Tuesday morning, and the 53 year old man was taken to a Santa Barbara hospital for treatment.
The CHP says they received reports he had been driving recklessly on the 101 Freeway in Summerland before the accident, and say he was speeding when he lost control of his car on San Marcos Pass.
Officers think he was under the influence of prescription drugs at the time of the crash, and say he’s had three DUI’s in three years.
