Community Drug Forum Planned For Eastern Ventura County

Posted on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 12:58am

A community drug forum will take place tomorrow night to try to highlight illegal drug issues in Eastern Ventura County.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, and the Moorpark School District are co-sponsoring the event at Moorpark High school.

Experts will be on hand to talk about drug issues like prescription drug, heroin, and alcohol abuse, as well as a surge in so-called “designer drugs” like “Bath Salts and “Spice.” Sheriff’s Department officials say that a survey shows that more than 60% of teens say that drugs have been sold, used, or kept at their schools. It also shows that more than half of all adolescents have used alcohol by the time they’ve reached the eighth grade, and 41% have smoked cigarettes.

The forum is intended to give parents information on what they should be looking for to detect drug use. The free event begins at 6 p.m. tomorrow in Moorpark High School’s Performing Arts Center.
