Simi Valley Police Say Fraud Operation Was Using Name Of Legitimate Business

Posted on Thursday, January 17, 2013 12:56pm

Simi Valley Police say a fraud scheme is using the name of a legitimate property management company to scam money from people looking for home rentals.

Investigators say people would call a listed telephone number answered by a person claiming to be from ABM Property Management, in Simi Valley. The operation would ask victims to fill out credit applications with their social security numbers, and to buy prepaid debit cards . Once the victim faxed the information to a number provided by the suspect, they would never hear from him again.

Police say the scam stole ABM Property Management’s identity, noting that the firm doesn’t even special in rental properties.
