Man Arrested Following Brazen Daylight Burglary Attempt Of Santa Barbara County Department Store

Posted on Monday, January 14, 2013 11:21am

Police say a man tried to rob a Santa Barbara County department store in a brazen daylight burglary attempt, but fled after he was unable to break open jewelry display cases with a crowbar.

Officers say Anthony Lee Arguijo walked into a Macy’s store in the Santa Maria Town Center just after noon yesterday wearing a ski mask, and carrying a crowbar. They say he tried to break open some jewelry display cases with the tool, but started to flee after numerous attempts failed to break the safety glass.

Store security tried to stop him as he was leaving the store, but say he threatened them with the crowbar. They followed him as he fled on foot, and with the help of an off-duty park ranger, caught him a few blocks away. Police say the 39 year old Santa Maria man still had his mask, and the crowbar with him when he was arrested.
