Ventura County Man Extradited From Mexico To Stand Trial For 2011 Murder

Posted on Friday, January 11, 2013 10:55am

A man is behind bars in Ventura County, after being extradited from Mexico for a 2011 murder in Oxnard. Mauricio Guzman was arrested in Tijuana for the May 2011, shooting death of Jesus Valentin on the 300 block of Cuesta Del Mar Drive, in Oxnard.

Witness say a pickup truck pulled up to the victim, who was with a group of people. There was an argument, and the 25 year old victim was fatally wounded by shotgun blasts to the head, and chest.

Guzman fled to Mexico after the shooting, but Oxnard Police detectives were able to tie him to the killing.

They went to federal law enforcement officials, who worked with the Mexican government to arrest, and extradite the 31 year old man. Guzman was returned to Ventura County this week.

Detectives say the Oxnard man has gang ties, but aren’t talking about what they think the motive was for the killing.
