A DUI crackdown by 14 law enforcement agencies in Ventura County during the holidays led to 183 arrests, a big number, but one that’s also down significantly from last year.
Officials with the “Avoid The 14″ effort say they hope the 28% year to year drop in arrests is a sign people are getting the message about drinking and driving. The 17 day long effort this year included three DUI checkpoints, a warrant sweep, and extra patrols, including the use of a 17 officer DUI task force.
In addition to the 183 DUI related arrests, there was one DUI related fatality in the county during the holiday period.
Officials say they’re planning their next big major enforcement effort for the Super Bowl weekend.
