Firefighters Contain Brushfire In Ventura County

Posted on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 2:00pm

Ventura County firefighters are trying to determine the cause of a fire which burned more than three hours of brush in an oil field this morning.

The blaze was discovered at around 3:30 a.m., in a remote area about two miles southeast of Santa Paula. There were no homes in the vicinity of the fire, which was on the 17000 block of South Mountain Road.

The 50 firefighters on the scene had to deal with 30 to 35 mile an hour wind. The gusty conditions blew embers around, making it difficult to stop the blaze. The Ventura County Fire Department’s Bill Nash says the fire was contained at about noon. No one was hurt, and no structures were damaged.

There were some downed power lines at the site, but investigators haven’t determined if that was the cause of the fire.
