Commission To Look At Reducing Potential Growth For Santa Paula

Posted on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 12:43pm

A Ventura County community could lose its ability to control growth in some nearby canyons which have been the focus of controversial development plans.

The Local Area Formation Commission is set to look at whether Adams, and Fagan Canyons should remain in the City of Santa Paula’s sphere of influence.

LAFCO is looking at the issue because it says the city failed to develop plans to supply city services, like fire and police protection to the two areas.

Santa Paula voters rejected two proposals for large scale developments in Fagan Canyon, but approved a project to build homes in Adams Canyon. However, the Adams Canyon plans were stalled by the economy.

LAFCO officials could leave things as they stand now, or remove the sphere of influence designation for one, or both of the canyons when they look at the issue January 16th.
