Hope has dimmed for a Santa Barbara County pilot who disappeared December 17th, on a flight from the Santa Ynez Valley to Mammoth Lakes.
Pilot Nicol Wilson’s single engine plane disappeared from radar as it was flying through Yosemite National Park.
Searchers explored a 600 square mile area by air. It’s in a rugged, isolated part of the park which is inaccessible by vehicle due to snow this time of the year. They looked for the plane for three days before a major winter storm forced suspension of the search efforts.
With more than five feet of new snow on the ground, searchers say they may have to abandon efforts to find the plane until next spring.
