Environmental Groups To Appeal Court Decision Which Set Stage For Coastal Development In Santa Barbara County

Posted on Friday, December 14, 2012 10:33am

A coalition of environmental groups is appealing a court ruling which rejected part of their efforts to block a new development on the Gaviota coast, in Santa Barbara County.

In July, a judge upheld Santa Barbara County’s approval of a 71 home development for one portion of the development. The original plans called for development of large ranch style homes on both the ocean, and inland sides of the 101 Freeway, but the County has only approved in the inland portion.

The Environmental Defense Center, the Naples Coalition, and the Surfrider Foundation have been fighting the project, claiming it violates zoning ordinances, and the state Environmental Quality Act.
