In anticipation of a large crowd tonight, the location of the first meeting for the new governing board for Ventura County’s newest school district has been moved.
Last month, voters approved merging Santa Paula’s elementary, and high school districts. The newly elected governing board will meet for the first time at 7 tonight, at the Santa Paula Community Center. The meeting was originally planned for Santa Paula City Hall, but officials became concerned it might be too small for the crowd.
The board is expected to act on some basic issues, like setting a schedule of meetings. Ultimately, though, it will have to deal with some bigger questions, like selecting a new superintendent, and deciding on a name for the new district. The two current districts will run independently until the end of the current school year, when they will be merged, and the new governing board will officially take control.
