Posted on Saturday, November 17, 2012 10:41am

A former Santa Barbara police office received a ten day jail sentence following his conviction of destroying evidence, and resisting arrest following an incident where he was originally accused of lewd conduct.

Brain Sawicki had been accused of lewd conduct at Refugio State Beach, and prosecutors say when he a state park ranger tried to contact him, he fled. He was later arrested.

Following a trial in Santa Maria, he was acquitted of annoying or molesting a child, lewd conduct, and electronic peeping charges, but was convicted of misdemeanor charges of destroying evidence, and resisting arrest.

In addition to the 10 day sentence, the 36 year old man was fined, and placed on three years probation. He resigned from the Santa Barbara Police Department following the 2009 incident.
