Ventura County Jail Facility Going Green

Posted on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 2:48pm

Ventura County is going green at one of its main jail facilities.

Ventura County Supervisors today approved a $3.5 million dollar contract to build a solar power system for its Todd Road Jail facility, near Santa Paula.

The solar system will supply about 40% of the electricity needed to run the 800 plus inmate facility on a daily basis.

County General Services Agency Director Paul Grossgold says the solar system is another step in efforts to reduce the county’s greenhouse gas emissions.

The solar system is expected to be online by next summer, and is projected to pay for itself in 20 years.

The total project cost is estimated to be about $4.6 million dollars, but the county will get $1.2 million dollars back in incentives from Southern California Edison.
