Santa Barbara County Beach Where Fatal Great White Shark Attack Occured Reopened

Posted on Saturday, October 27, 2012 12:28am

A beach closed since Tuesday due to a fatal Great White Shark attack on a surfer is now open.

Francisco Javier Solorio Junior was attacked when he was surfing on Tuesday morning, near Surf Beach, outside of Lompoc. The 39 year old Orcutt man was surfing with a friend. The friend pulled Solorio from the water, and started CPR on the victim, but Solorio died at the scene. He had been bitten by the shark in the upper torso area.

Vandenberg Air Force Base officials ordered the beach closed for 72 hours as a precaution, but reopened it Friday morning.

It’s the same vicinity where a UCSB student died in a fatal shark attack two years ago. It was October 22nd, 2010 when Lucas Ransom was also fatally injured by a Great White in the Surf Beach area.
