Ventura County Woman Attacked By Bear

Posted on Friday, October 19, 2012 8:10pm

A Ventura County woman has quite a story to tell, after she was attacked by a bear which was apparently trying to protect its cub.

The Ojai woman was walking three dogs at around 7 Friday morning on a road just north of the city when she apparently surprised a California black bear, and the bear’s cub.

The two bears crossed the road, but then the mother came back and first swiped at the woman, cutting her wrist, and then charged her, knocking the 50 year old woman down an embankment.

The bear followed the woman down the hill, and then sniffed the woman, who tried not to move.

The woman says after the bear sniffed her for about ten seconds, it left. The woman wasn’t seriously injured, and declined medical treatment.
