Man Struck, Killed By Passenger Train In Ventura County Identified

Posted on Thursday, October 18, 2012 3:24pm

A Ventura County man has been identified as the person who was struck, and killed by a northbound passenger train on the Rincon.

Lawrence Melby of La Conchita was walking a dog along the tracks near his home Tuesday afternoon, when he was hit by an Amtrak train.

Authorities say the 68 year old man was walking in the same direction as the train, but wasn’t wearing headphones.

The train’s crew repeatedly sounded a horn, but Melby didn’t get out of the way in time. Some witnesses told authorities that he was trying to get the dog off the tracks when he was hit.
