A retired Port Hueneme City Manager has been hired to fill the vacancy created by the recent ouster of the man who was recently holding the post.
Dave Norman stepped down early this month, after being told that the City Council wanted to move the city in a different direction.
Now, the council has hired Dick Velthoen as Interim City Manager.
He retired as Port Hueneme’s City Manager in 2000, after more than two decades holding the post. Because he’s retired, and getting money through the state retirement system, he’s only allowed to work 960 hours a year. The council capped his pay at $32,000. Velthoen isn’t eligible to receive benefits.
