Two Men Shot And Killed, Third Wounded In Confrontation With Oxnard Police

Posted on Sunday, October 14, 2012 10:15am

Oxnard Police say two men are dead, and a third wounded following a pursuit, and confrontation with officers Saturday night.

It started just after 10 p.m. Saturday, when officers tried to pull over a vehicle for what they say was a possible traffic violation. They say the driver initially refused to stop, but then pulled over near Second Street, and Grand Avenue.

The officers say the people in the car refused to comply with officers orders. The officers then received word from a dispatcher that a 911 caller indicated the vehicle’s occupants had possible brandished a handgun. As the officers continued to try to get the men to leave the car, the driver suddenly drove away from the scene.

After a second short chase, the driver stopped on the 100 block of North Garfield Avenue. Police say two men ran from the car, and as officers chased them, they say the men fired gunshots. Officers fatally wounded the two men, and a third man received what’s described as a non-life threatening wound. A fourth person was arrested, but their involvement with the incident is unclear. No officers were injured.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, along with the Ventura County District Attorney’s office are investigating the shooting.
