A woman who was on her phone while walking on some railroad tracks was struck, and killed by an Amtrak train in Ventura.
It happened just after 5 p.m. Saturday, near the Ventura River, just west of the Ventura County Fairgrounds. The southbound train was travelling at about 40 miles an hour. The conductor sounded the warning horn multiple times, and the train tried to make an emergency stop, but it was unable to stop in time.
The 28 year old Ventura woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name hasn’t been released yet.
No one on the train was hurt, but it was delayed about two hours.
