Stinky Mystery Smell Blankets Much Of Southern California

Posted on Monday, September 10, 2012 1:44pm

Something stinks in Southern California, and it may be an unsavory scent which has travelled hundreds of miles.

People in Simi Valley, the Los Angeles basin, and San Bernardino County have reported smelling a strong, rotten egg type smell today.

The Simi Valley Police Department reports it’s received dozens of calls. Authorities in Ventura County say they can’t find a local source to the smelly problem.

But, weather experts say some freak weather conditions may have pushed the smell from the Salton Sea hundreds of miles into Southern California.

If that’s the case, that’s one powerful stench, because it’s about 200 miles from the Salton Sea, to Simi Valley.
