Oxnard Police Officer Shoots, Kills Threatening Dog

Posted on Friday, September 7, 2012 11:53am

An Oxnard police officer responding to a call of a woman possibly overdosing drugs shot, and killed a dog which was behaving in a threatening way.

The officer was responding to a call on the 600 block of East Poplar Street at around six Thursday night, when a dog came out of an open gate. The officer told a man to control the dog, but when it continued to advance, he shot it.

The man grabbed the wounded dog, and it bit him. The dog then died at the scene.

The man who was bitten was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injures, and the woman who was the subject of the overdose call was also taken to a hospital.

The officer was unhurt.
