Fire Hits Santa Barbara School Campus

Posted on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 3:34pm

A fire cause a brief scare at a South Coast school, prompting the evacuation of the campus.

Some items improperly stored next to a gas water heater cabinet in Peabody Charter School’s main campus building caught on fire, triggering fire alarms.

Santa Barbara firefighters arriving at the school on the 3000 block of Calle Noguera around 11 a.m. today found a full campus evacuation in progress, and smoke coming from a utility closet in the main building.

Investigators say the fire melted a water line for a nearby water softer unit, so the water helped control the flames until firefighters arrived. The firefighters quickly knocked down the small fire. No one was hurt.
