An idea to improve public safety efforts in Santa Barbara that’s been kicked around for years, and unsuccessfully tried once before is now a reality.
On July first, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department, and the County Fire Department merged their helicopter operations into one new unit.
The goals include improving the ability to respond quickly to emergencies like brush fires, while saving money by combining things like maintenance of the choppers.
KCLU’s Lance Orozco reports that the first report to County Supervisors since the reorganization shows that the effort is on track.
