Race For Mayor Of Oxnard Taking Shape

Posted on Monday, August 13, 2012 4:57pm

The race for mayor of Ventura County’s largest city is starting to take shape.

Longtime Oxnard Mayor Tom Holden announced a few weeks ago he wouldn’t be seeking re-election.

Three current city council members announced plans to seek the post. Tim Flynn, Irene Pinkard, and Carmen Ramirez are all in the race. Oxnard resident Donald Thibeault is also a candidate.

It’s been a rough few years for the city, with an investigation by the Ventura County District Attorney’s office finding what it called serious financial abuses by some city staff.

Investigators called for reforms, but say the evidence wasn’t enough to support criminal prosecution. The City Council was also at odds with City Manager Ed Sotelo, putting him on paid administrative leave. City officials say the suspension had nothing to do with the DA’s investigation.
