Santa Barbara Police Take Steps To Try To Deter Gang Activity On City’s Eastside

Posted on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 2:39pm

Santa Barbara Police say they are trying to increase their presence in a part of the city residents say has been taken over by gang members.

The Police Department is now holding its shift briefings at the Franklin Community Center, and in the center’s parking lot.

The action is intended to deter gang members who area residents say have been staking out claims to the Center, Franklin Park, the Eastside Library, and the Franklin Clinic.

The department is hoping that the increased police presence will scare away gang members who have been deterring families from using the community facilities.
