Crews are continuing their efforts to clean up a mysterious chemical spill in a barranca near Ventura Harbor, which led to a petroleum like sheen on the water in the Ventura Keys area.
The spill was first noticed just after eight yesterday morning. Nearly three dozen emergency personnel from 10 agencies responded to the scene. Ventura firefighters, and harbor patrol personnel deployed containment, and absorbent booms to control the spill, before it could spread into the harbor.
They were able to stop the spill, but full cleanup could take a few days. Investigators are still trying to determine exactly what spilled, how much spilled, and how it got into the barranca.
