Ventura Man Stops Armed Intruder

Posted on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 4:44pm

Police say a would be home invasion robber got a lot more than she bargained for in Ventura, when a would be victim fought back, and helped capture her.

Detectives say a disguised woman armed with a gun entered the unlocked front door of a home on Mission Plaza Drive, just after 3 p.m. Tuesday. They say she pointed a gun at Damir DeBalkany, and his disabled son. When the woman, who’s been identified as Victoria Austin of Oak Park, was momentarily distracted, DeBalkney hit her. The gun went off, with a round harmlessly hitting the ceiling.

The two struggled until Ventura Police arrived, and arrested the 50 year old woman. She’s now charged with armed robbery.
