State Hydraulic Fracturing Workshop Looking At Possible Regulations Set For Santa Barbara County

Posted on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 10:44am

The state is holding the latest in a series of workshops aimed at looking at, and possibly regulating the controversial oil, and gas production process known as hydraulic fracturing in Santa Barbara County this week.

The State Department of Conservation is looking at what’s commonly known as “fracking,” and gathering information to develop regulations.

The process involves the high pressure injection of water, or other fluids underground to access underground oil, or gas deposits. The fluids are then pumped out.

But, some are concerned about potential environmental impacts, especially to groundwater.

The workshop will take place from seven to nine p.m. tomorrow night, in the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors meeting room in Santa Maria.
