Governor Signs Into Law Intended To Save Millions For Ventura Harbor Dredging Projects

Posted on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 12:58am

The governor signed into law legislation which could potentially save Ventura Harbor millions of dollars over the years, by linking its harbor dredging work to federal dredging off the county’s coastline.

AB 482 was authored by Democratic Assemblyman Das Williams of Santa Barbara.

It allows the harbor district to bypass the traditional legally mandated bidding process for inner harbor dredging, by tying the work to contractors selected by the Army Corps of Engineers for other offshore dredging.

Williams says the change could save more than three quarters of a million dollars alone in start up costs for the work. The legislation received bipartisan support.
