Oxnard Police Say The Third Time Not The Charm For Rooftop Burglar

Posted on Thursday, July 5, 2012 8:28am

Oxnard Police say they’ve caught a rooftop burglar who got away with using the same break-in scheme twice, but struck out on his third try.

Investigators say the burglar cut holes into the roofs of businesses, and then dropped inside to loot their cash registers. They say he successfully used this technique to rob some Oxnard businesses in March, and June, but that his luck ran out today.

Officers responding to a burglar alarm at around one this morning saw a white van leaving the business, on the 1400 block of West Channel Islands Boulevard. They stopped the van, and became suspicious when Omar Barrera couldn’t explain why he was in the neighborhood at one in the morning.

After examining surveillance video from the burglarized business, Channel Island Dairy, investigators say they identified Barrera is the suspect. They say he confessed to the break-in, as well as to two others using the same technique earlier this year.
