Fireworks Blamed For Fire Which Caused Scare In Ventura

Posted on Thursday, July 5, 2012 6:57am

Firefighters say fireworks were the cause of a brushfire which caused a scare in a Ventura neighborhood last night.

The blaze was reported just after 10 p.m., near the intersection of Harmon Drive, and Antelope Avenue. The fire was in a rugged barranca, behind a home. The Ventura Fire Department scrambled more than 30 firefighters to the scene, and were able to quickly contain the fire to about a quarter of an acre of land, and stop it before it could reach nearby homes.

Area residents reported hearing fireworks just before the fire was discovered, and investigators determined that the blaze was fireworks related.

Meanwhile, people watching the fireworks show in Thousand Oaks last night, which you heard live here on KCLU, got an unexpected side show.

There was a small brush fire on the hillside in the center of the city where the fireworks are launched. Ventura County firefighters on hand as a precaution for the show quickly contained the spot blaze.
