Ventura County’s McGrath State Beach Set To Reopen This Weekend, After Surviving Permanent Closure Threat

Posted on Thursday, June 28, 2012 2:46pm

It’s one of the South Coast’s most popular state parks, with hundreds of thousands of visitors a year. But last year, McGrath State Beach, in Oxnard, was facing the possibility of permanent closure.

An aging sewer line serving the park was no longer usable, because of the threat of leakage. The state didn’t have the money to replace it.

What started as a grass roots community campaign saved the day, raising the money need to replace the sewer line. Now, with the system rebuilt. the park is set to reopen this weekend.
