Ventura County Based Commuter Bus Service Saved from Shutdown for At Least A Month

Posted on Thursday, June 28, 2012 2:35pm

A commuter bus line which providers intercity service in Ventura County, and connects riders with the San Fernando Valley, and Santa Barbara has received a reprieve from shutdown this week.

The VISTA bus service has been in jeopardy because the company which has the contract to provide it has declared bankruptcy.

Coach America notified the Ventura County Transportation Commission earlier this month that because of its financial problems, it would end service as of June 30th.

Now, Transportation Commission officials say they’ve worked out a deal to keep the Coach America buses rolling until at least July 31st, giving them time to find a permanent replacement. VISTA buses will continue to operate their existing schedule, on the same routes at least through July.

Some 1500 people a day rely on the VISTA commuter bus service.
