Santa Barbara County Supervisors Call Special Meeting To Consider Plan To Raise Hotel Bed Tax

Posted on Thursday, June 28, 2012 12:34am

Santa Barbara County supervisors are going to have a special meeting next week to consider putting a proposal on the November ballot to raise the transient occupancy tax in the unincorporated areas of the county.

The board is looking at raising the tax from ten, to twelve percent. The change wouldn’t affect local residents, but people who stay in hotel, and motel rooms in unincorporated parts of the county. It would mean additional revenue for the cash strapped county.

Goleta, Carpinteria, and Solvang are pursuing the same idea, while Santa Barbara already has a twelve percent bed tax.

The special meeting is set for 3 p.m. next Tuesday, July 3rd.
