Santa Barbara Zoo Loses One Of Its Longtime Residents

Posted on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 12:31am

A giraffe which was one of the most familar, and popular residents of the Santa Barbara Zoo had to be euthanized, because of her serious health problems.

Sulima lived in Santa Barbara for 20 of her 21 years. She was a Baringo giraffe, and a companion to Gemina, the zoo’s famous crooked necked giraffe which died in 2008.

Sulima’s passing on Monday leaves the Zoo with three Masai giraffes. She lived slightly longer than the average for Baringo giraffes.
