Santa Barbara County is hoping that providing a financial incentive for developers to build new hotels, and improve existing ones will also help fill the county’s seriously depleted coffers.
In what’s being called a nationally unique program, developers will temporarily get to keep some of the new hotel bed tax revenue from these projects, while the county will end up with increased property, and sales taxes.
Santa Barbara County supervisors narrowly approved the plan yesterday, but there was controversy because some feel there are major gaps in the proposal.
