A man involved in a shootout with authorities in Ventura County has been ruled incompetent to stand trail, and is being sent to a state mental hospital.
Augustin Medina was involved in a domestic violence incident last October in Oxnard.
It led to a chase on the 101 Freeway, and Highway 33 in which shots were fired. The 46 year old man was eventually shot, and seriously wounded in an exchange of gunfire with Oxnard Police, and Ventura County Sheriff’s deputies in Port Hueneme.
Medina has agreed to go to a state hospital in San Bernardino for treatment, and could then be returned to Ventura County for trial is he’s ruled competent.
He’s facing multiple attempted murder charges from his shootout with officers.
