$4.2 Million In Marijuana Seized In Raid On Santa Barbara County Beach

Posted on Friday, June 15, 2012 2:44pm

Authorities have made the third big marijuana seizure in less than a week off the South Coast, as officers from a half dozen agencies intercepted more than four million dollars worth of the drug unloaded from a boat at an isolated Santa Barbara County beach.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Unit, along with SWAT team members, State Parks rangers, and CHP officers made the seizure early this morning on the coast near El Capitan State Beach.

They seized 1400 pound of marijuana which had been offloaded from a small boat, and arrested six men, including two from Mexico, and four from the Los Angeles area. The marijuana has an estimated street value of $4.2 million dollars.

Earlier this week, authorities made large seizures of marijuana shipments at a beach near Deer Creek Road, in Ventura County, as well as from a boat which became stranded off of Oxnard’s Channel Islands Harbor.
