Posted on Thursday, June 14, 2012 11:02am

A Santa Barbara County school district has reached out to San Diego County to find a new superintendent.

The Goleta Union School District hired Bill Banning for the post. Banning had been an educator for more than three decades, and is currently an assistant superintendent with the Solana Beach School District. Following a nationwide search, Banning was chose from a field of about 50 applicants.

He replaces Kathy Boomer, who is set to retire this month after seven years as superintendent, and three decades in education.

Banning will officially take over the Goleta post July 1st.
