Ventura County is going to pursue plans to build a facility to house severely mentally ill county residents.
County supervisors conceptually approved plans to build a 15 bed locked facility on county property at Camarillo Airport.
The county doesn’t currently have a facility of this type, and has to send people to other areas. County officials say having a local center will reduce costs, as well as provide something which is much more accessible for families, who currently have to travel out of the area to see loved ones in secured mental health facilities.
The County would pay for most of the five million dollar plus project with a 15 year loan, with the goal of having it open in about two years.
