Changes In Works For Ventura County’s Animal Services Department

Ventura County Supervisors have approved a plan to merge management of the County’s Animal Services Department into the County’s Health Department.

The merger is intended to give Animal Services access to more support for things like media relations, and grant writing.

During the discussion, county supervisors expressed the desire to move the county shelter towards a no-kill policy, in which most animals would no longer be euthanized.

It’s been a hot button issue in recent years, with some animal right advocates contending the county hasn’t been doing enough to move towards a no-kill policy.

The Department is currently looking for a new director, after Monica Nolan resigned earlier this spring, citing personal reasons.
